It now looks like Saturday will be my big workday to finish the two big islands in the front yard. The roses are looking real good - they love the warm days and cool nights. One of my next big jobs is to deadhead all of these roses. It's a time consuming chore, but the results are real big in the long run. The new mulch is keeping all of the weeds down (weeds are always one of my pet peeves). Oddly enough, we have a few new fire-ant mounds, so I need to add that to my big Saturday checklist.
Hope all is well with your yard, take care.

It's block party time!
Tonight was the annual block party at my mother-in-law's house. Such a fun group of people and extremely warm and inviting. Yes, I answered some plant questions - and by the way, I absolutely never mind the questions, as I see it as making new friends.
Today was a major day to finish my two new island plantings, except I was overly optimistic. We planted 12 Italian cypress and placed 60 new Knock-out Roses on the two islands. I ordered 25 yards of mulch and there it sits in three separate areas of the driveway. So, only the Italian cypress got planted and I now have all these Roses to hand water until I can get them in the ground. It will have to wait until next week, as I'm playing tennis in the afternoon and then later a boat ride. Sometimes the Roses just have to wait. I'm actually very anxious to finish these islands as they should add a lot of new drama to the front yard. It's like putting a jigsaw puzzle together: it's exciting to see the design take form but its more exciting to be almost finished. That's what I am tonight - FINISHED! I'll talk when I can.
